To Russia with Love
iPass opens broadband access across the world's largest country

Considering a business trip to Russia? If so, don't forget your iPass-enabled laptop or smartphone. The red "i" in your iPassConnect™ interface is now available to you from Red Square in Moscow and at more than 9,600 other Russian broadband locations.

photoIn October 2008, iPass announced a global broadband roaming agreement with OJSC VimpelCom, a leading provider of telecommunications in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The company operates under the Beeline brand, which is considered the most valuable brand in Russia. Since then, iPass has been working hard to integrate Beeline hotspots and perform iPass Enterprise-Ready testing and certification to ensure secure, trouble-free connections; seamless roaming; and consolidating billing.

With this network expansion, iPass customers can gain secure, seamless Internet connectivity from their laptops and Wi-Fi enabled smartphones at a host of business venues, including:

  • Outdoor Metro Wi-Fi in Moscow. Moscow is Russia's largest city and one of the largest metropolitan areas in Europe. iPass service is now available through the city's massive Metro Wi-Fi, which includes more than 8,500 hotspots in and around the nation's capital.
  • Major Cities. iPass customers gain significant coverage in major business centers throughout Moscow, St. Petersburg and other major cities such as Ekaterinburg, Khabarovsk, Ufa and Krasnoyarsk.
  • Airports. Access 70 hotspots at four airports, including Moscow's Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo International Airports. Domodedovo—Russia's largest and one of the world's top 100 airports—served more than 20 million passengers in 2008. Other major Russian airports include Pulkovo Airport, serving St. Petersburg, and Khabarovsk Airport, a major hub of Vladivostok Air.
  • Cafés and Restaurants. Stay connected at hotspots in McDonald's, Starbucks, Coffee House and Yaposha chains, just to name a few, as well as in shopping centers and other retail locations.

photoThe addition of the Beeline network builds on iPass' 2008 European hotspot expansion, providing even deeper coverage across Eastern Europe. It also increases the iPass Global Broadband Roaming Network to nearly 120,000 locations worldwide.

Don't Forget Your Smartphone
Thanks to the new iPassConnect mobility manager, smartphone users can use Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide to stay connected without incurring expensive 3G roaming fees. Just switch your smartphone to Wi-Fi mode when overseas to avoid high roaming charges. iPass Enterprise Flat-Rate Pricing makes this very feasible, allowing each mobile worker to use iPass on as many devices as they choose at no extra charge*.

The new Russian locations are now available in the iPass Hotspot Finder and Handheld Hotspot Finder. Check them out before traveling to Russia.

* "No extra charge" applies to users whose company is subscribed to an Enterprise Flat Rate plan who have also actively used another device (such as a Windows laptop) on the iPass Wi-Fi network within the calendar month. Users of customers on iPass usage-based plans will pay their contracted Wi-Fi rates for usage on these devices.
